[...] For those of you not familiar with the Simple Way community, it’s the mother ship for the New Monasticism movement which we’ve discussed here a number of times. Their website says: This fire will forever change the fabric of our community. Eight families are currently homeless, and in many cases have lost their vehicles as well as their homes. One of our neighbors, the Mahaias Family, lost their three cars as well as the equipment one family member uses for her massage therapy business. Teenager Brian Mahaias is devastated not because he has lost his belongings, but because he fears that this fire will force him to move away from this neighborhood that is his family as well as his home.
JDaniel: the New Monasticism is a (inter?)national movement, among and beyond evangelicals, trying to reclaim the monastic vision of a Christian life together. The Simple Way (Philly, PA) and the Rutba House (Durham, NC) have been at the forefront of the movement. Nate is (generously) identifying the re-awakening of the Anabaptist communal impulse among young adults as part of this overall movement. He's referring in particular, I'm assuming, to things like Bike Movement and a group of folks re-connecting with Fellowship of Hope in Elkhart, who themselves spent close to two decades under a common rule. Does that get at your confusion?

As the automatically generated comment above suggests, the folks at Christianity Is More have a link to this post and a comment regarding YAR. I must say I was a bit confused by the reference to the New Monasticism. Can anyone clear that up for me?

[...] Below is a link to a review of a new book called Tempting Faith by Deputy Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Community Initiatives David Kuo. The link was submitted by CIM reader Daniel Hess. Kuo is a "longtime Christian political operative" whose book exposes the way in which the Bush administration has "strung along Christian leaders over the last 6 years." the quotes are taken from the website called Young Anabaptist Radicals... the link to the book review is below. >Tempting Faith Shows Bush exploitation of >Christians< http://young.anabaptistradicals.org/2006/10/13/tempting-faith-shows-bush-exploitation-of-christians/ Posted by: Bernie on Oct 17, 06 | 10:40 am | Profile [0] comments (0 views) | [0] Trackbacks [0] Pingbacks [...]
