This week my friend Sarah Shirk sent out an email announcing that she’ll be participating in a month long Border Witness Drive project organized by Christian Peaceamaker Teams. You can follow along on the trip through their blog:
Sarah describes the drive thusly:
Beginning July 1st, I and a team of three others will start out from Tucson driving east along the U.S./Mexico border. The Border Witness Drive project will spend the next month, through the 1st of August, meeting with organizations and individuals working for migrant rights along the border. We also hope to visit Raymondville, the largest detention center for undocumented workers in the U.S., as well as the FLOC offices in Monterrey, Mexico, where I was recently working.
We plan to make stops in El Paso, Monterrey, Mexico, Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley, New Orleans, Georgia, North Carolina and Washington, D.C. Once we reach D.C., we plan to meet with our representatives to share stories from the folks we have met, and to advocate for better immigration policies that don’t break up families or demonize hard workers.
I am thankful for this blog. I am better informed, and it increases my prayerlife.
Thank you,
Thomas Skayhan
